campaign finance reform

We would be better off if we were to be open about one dollar one vote — what H. L. Hunt proposed back in the 50s.  Let the candidates collect their funds, turn the money over to the government, the one with the biggest package wins.  No need for recounts, election frauds, etc.

here’s one i heard on the radio many years ago:
anyone may contribute any amount to any campaign.
they send it to the federal election commission which lumps it together with other donations and gives the money to the designee who doesn’t know who contributed the money.

in the past the person who raised and spent the most money hasn’t always won.

somewhere in the christian bible it says: the race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong.
    J. Paul Getty appended: “but that is the way to bet.”

Institutions reflect power, they don’t shape it. That’s a good example.
