Scary Precedent for Economics

According to a brief note in the New York Times, the Romanian Parliament is considering legislation to fine or punish witches whose prophecies turn out to be incorrect.  Imagine that economists faced comparable sanctions?

    That day has come, as the Us Justice Department is now bringing suit against Standard & Poors parent company for S&P’s prophecy that many Mortgage Backed Securities were of low risk. With perfect hindsight, the Justice Department has now determined that those securities were indeed risky.
